Feck all wind in the morning. Still nothing by midday but further west it was picking up so took a chance, loaded up the van, drove into town to do some chores, then straight on to Shoreham.

Arrived just after 2pm. I needed to pop into Surfladle, was thinking I would do that pre-session, but then thought nah will check the wind first, bad-light will end any sailing around 4.30pm, can go to Surfladle after that before Danny shuts up shop at 5.30pm.

Got to the beach and yes windy. 5.9 to start with. Well powered up but not at all comfortable, even with mucho downhaul. Hadn't sailed in 2 weeks, hadn't used anything bigger than a 5.2 for months, just didn't feel right. Was feeling mucho rusty and consequently was sailing like a muppet.

Wind kept on picking up and the 5.9 was becoming a real struggle. Could probably have continued on it with more downhaul, but nah sod that, was only 3.30pm so still enough daylight to make re-rigging worthwhile, 5.2 is needed!

And aaahhh...much better. Still wasn't sailing perfectly, and again even with lots of downhaul for some reason the rig didn't quite feel 100% right. But was comfortably powered up now, so much smoother with the smaller rig, most of the gybes were now being completed dry rather than wet, and got in a few half-decent jumps. Carried on sailing until it was getting proper dark and becoming near impossible to see the chop shaping up in front of you. Came in around 4.45pm, finishing off the session with a proper good body-drag towards the beach from which I oh so nearly got back onto the board cleanly. In the end by the time I'd packed up was too late to go to Surfladle - oh well maybe tomorrow. With hindsight it would have been best to go there first and then I would have arrived at the beach later and rigged the 5.2 straight away. Ho hum.

In the wave-less choppy conditions was not the most exciting of sessions. Annoying also that it got dark just when I had warmed up and was starting to sail well. Nevertheless overcoming my rustiness, the good hour at the end and the good jumps and body-drag means it just about earns 4 stars.

Now to bed for an early start tomorrow morning and some proper wind... :)
